Searching for a walk in flu shot near me in Jackson County? Total Health Urgent Care gives seasonal flu shots at 12000 Hwy 57 in Vancleave, seven days a week, 7am to 7pm, and no appointment is required. The short version:
- CDC wants folks vaccinated before November arrives.
- Protection takes roughly two weeks to build.
- Flu is still quiet nationally, which is exactly why this is the easy stretch to go.
- Our doors are open 7am to 7pm daily, weekends included, and walk-ins are welcome.

Where do I get a walk in flu shot near me?
Total Health Urgent Care at 12000 Hwy 57 in Vancleave, MS 39565 offers seasonal flu shots as a walk-in service, 7am to 7pm all seven days. No appointment, and you don’t have to be an established patient. We’re a straight shot up Hwy 57 for Gautier folks, and a manageable drive if you’re coming from Biloxi, D’Iberville, Gulfport, Moss Point, Pascagoula, or Ocean Springs.
That 7-day, 7am to 7pm schedule is the part that matters most for a flu shot. A lot of Jackson County families are juggling shift work, school pickup, and a Saturday that’s already full. Being able to stop in before work at 7am or after dinner plans fall through at 6:30pm is usually the difference between actually getting the shot and telling yourself you’ll do it next week. You can see the full list of what we handle on our urgent care and primary care services page.
When is the best time to get a flu shot?
Right now, for most people. The CDC states that “for most people who need only one dose of influenza vaccine for the season, September and October are generally good times to be vaccinated against influenza. Ideally, everyone should be vaccinated by the end of October,” according to CDC’s guidance on who needs a flu vaccine.
The timing isn’t arbitrary. Flu season on the Gulf Coast hasn’t really started yet. In its FluView report for the week ending September 5, 2026, CDC reported influenza test positivity at clinical labs of just 1.3%, or 348 positives out of 26,520 specimens tested. Meanwhile CDC notes that “most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February.” Getting vaccinated in the quiet stretch means you’re covered before the holidays, when everybody’s indoors and passing things around.
Who should get a flu vaccine this year?
Almost everybody. CDC’s recommendation is that “everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions.” A few groups have specific guidance worth knowing before you come in.
Sources for the table: CDC, Who Needs a Flu Vaccine, CDC on higher-dose vaccines for adults 65+, and CDC on flu and pregnancy.
How long does a flu shot take to work?
About two weeks. CDC puts it plainly: “It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus infection.” That two-week lag is the whole argument for going in September instead of waiting until someone in the house is already coughing. If you get the shot the week of Thanksgiving, you’re not really protected until December.
Can I get a flu shot and a COVID shot at the same visit?
Usually, yes. CDC says “people can get a flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same visit if they are eligible, and if the timing for each vaccine is right,” per its guidance on getting recommended vaccines at the same time. Whether that’s the right call for you depends on your history and what you’ve already had this year, so it’s worth asking when you come in rather than assuming either way.
Does insurance cover a flu shot in Mississippi?
In most cases it’s covered, though the details depend on your plan. HealthCare.gov explains that with most plans you “won’t pay a copayment or coinsurance for certain preventive services like immunizations and screening tests, even if you haven’t met your deductible,” as long as you see an in-network provider. It also notes that $0 cost isn’t guaranteed in every case, and older grandfathered plans are exempt from that rule.
A few other paths worth knowing:
- Medicare: Medicare.gov states that “Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers the seasonal flu vaccine” and that “you pay nothing for a flu shot if your doctor or other health care provider accepts assignment for giving the vaccine.”
- Kids: CDC’s Vaccines for Children program “provides vaccines to children whose parents or guardians may not be able to afford them,” covering eligible children 18 and under.
Most major insurance is accepted here and we bill it for you, so there’s no paperwork scramble on your end. There’s no published self-pay figure for the flu shot itself, so please ring (228) 283-5045 and we’ll confirm what your visit will run before you drive out. Our pricing and insurance page lists the office visit, the X-ray, and physicals up front, and because the service list runs long, anything beyond those is best settled with a quick phone call before your visit. Either way you’ll know the number before you commit.
Can a flu shot give you the flu?
No. This is the objection we hear most, and CDC addresses it directly: “a flu vaccine cannot cause flu,” because “the viruses in a flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get flu from a flu shot.” Some people do get a sore arm or feel a little run down for a day, which is the immune system doing its job, not the flu itself.
As for whether it’s worth the trip, CDC points to a 2021 study showing that among adults, flu vaccination was associated with a 26% lower risk of ICU admission and a 31% lower risk of death from flu compared with people who weren’t vaccinated. Those numbers come from CDC’s key facts on seasonal flu vaccine.
What if you already feel sick?
Come in anyway and let’s figure out what it is. Rapid on-site testing covers COVID, RSV, strep, and flu, and we have X-ray plus a lab right here, so answers land during the same visit rather than days later by phone. That matters when a cough might be nothing or might need a chest film. Our urgent care walk-in visits team handles both sides of it, and the primary care side is here if you’d rather establish with someone long-term.
One important note: urgent care isn’t the place for a true emergency. If you’re dealing with chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, or severe symptoms, call 911 or get to an emergency room.
What makes the best walk-in clinic near Vancleave?
For something like a flu shot, it comes down to three things: can you actually get in, do you know what it’ll cost, and can they handle it if the visit turns into something bigger. Our doors stay open 7am to 7pm all seven days, prices are posted instead of hidden, and X-ray plus lab sit right here alongside both urgent and primary care under one roof. This clinic is independently owned and was started by a nurse practitioner, so a real named provider stands behind it rather than a corporate org chart.

No. Total Health Urgent Care welcomes walk-ins every day of the week, 7am to 7pm, at 12000 Hwy 57 in Vancleave. Calling ahead at (228) 283-5045 is fine if it makes you more comfortable, but it isn’t required.
No. CDC recommends being vaccinated by the end of October, but also advises that vaccination should continue after October and throughout flu season as long as flu viruses are circulating. Later is better than never.
We sit on Hwy 57 in Vancleave, a short hop from Gautier and an easy trip up from Moss Point, Pascagoula, and Ocean Springs. Stop by any day, no appointment.
There’s no published self-pay figure for the flu shot, so please call (228) 283-5045 and we’ll tell you exactly what to expect before you drive out. For reference, the posted office visit is $130 self-pay, and an X-ray is $75.
Give us a ring at (228) 283-5045 and we’ll confirm what we can do for your child before you make the drive. Worth knowing either way: CDC notes that some children need two doses in their first season being vaccinated, with the second coming at least four weeks after the first, so an early-fall start leaves room for both.
Ask when you arrive and we’ll do our best to handle both. Student athletes pay nothing here for school and sports physicals.
